JANE BOULTBEE LADY PARKYNS |
TPB notes her marriage to Sir Thomas Parkyns,
Third Baronet (1728 - 1806). She was, in fact, his third wife and had
been governess to his daughters. (We owe this latter information to the
researches of June Starke of New Zealand).
Jane's only child, Thomas Boultbee Parkyns
(1797 - 1833) was the father of the 5th Baronet, Thomas George Augustus
Parkyns, and he in turn was the father of the 6th, and last recognised
Baronet, Thomas Mansfield Forbes Parkyns who died in 1926.
On November 2nd, 1798 at a ceremony, which
must have been both stirring and charming, Jane presented colours to the
Bunny Troop of Volunteer Cavalry commanded by her brother Joseph,
and new ones were presented by her on September 18th, 1804.
Three likenesses of Jane have survived. A
pencil drawing as a young woman wearing a pointed hat (and probably done
by her painter brother Thomas); a pencil and wash drawing showing her
with a very large late 18th century hat of about 1785; and a silhouette
which judging by the cap and hairstyle must be a little later but
probably before the death of Sir Thomas.
A Bible dated 1827 was given by Jane to her
niece and god-daughter Sarah Elizabeth (1817 - 1880, married the
Reverend William Morton) eldest daughter of Thomas, the Vicar of
Bidford. This was perhaps a gift at Sarah's Confirmation. On Sarah's
death this Bible passed to JB who gave it to his eldest son, James
William (1851 - 1911). In 1904 James William gave it to Joseph Francis
Boultbee (1872 - 1948) grandson of the first Edwin of Tasmania in remembrance of his kindness and lovable sympathy and father of James Alan Boultbee of Albury, New South Wales, (1912 - 1993) to whom the Bible came.
